Make Something Monday

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians! Hope you are all getting out and celebrating one way or another. We are heading to a family BBQ with fireworks this evening, but I first wanted to share today’s card with you.

Not only is it a holiday today, but my kids consider this the first real day of their summer holidays. And like I did last year, here at Camp Mommy, we have come up with a theme for each day of the week and today’s happened to be Make Something Monday. Great excuse to craft right?!

The challenges:

My card:

It’s been a while since I combined three challenges into one card, but today it just turned out that way.

I chose Coastal Cabana, as my second colour, to go with the Basic Gray the Dynamic Duos challenge gave us to work with this week. It’s one of the new In-Colours and I absolutely love it. Actually I love them all!!  And the layout of my card comes from the sketch challenge at Seize the Birthday.

I was originally going to leave it at the two challenges, until I saw this week’s Tic Tac Toe theme at The Paper Players. Turns out I also combined Embossing, Bling and Birthday, which is one of the diagonals.

Thanks for taking a look!

Here’s what I used:

Card Stock: Basic Gray, Coastal Cabana, Very Vanilla, Afternoon Picnic DSP

Ink: Basic Gray, Coastal Cabana

Stamp Sets: Secret Garden, Morning Meadow, Vintage Verses(R)

Tools & Embellishments: Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Secret Garden Framelits, Coastal Cabana Ruffled Stretch Trim, Pearl Basic Jewels, Itty Bitty Punch

Oh Canada!

I haven’t had a lot of time to craft this week, so today’s card is combining three challenges, the Clean and Simple with Bling at The Paper Players, the sketch challenge from Pals Paper Arts and the Patriotic Project challenge at SUO Challenges.

The challenges:

SUO Challenge #73 – Patriotic Projects!

My card:P1140242

I loved the idea of a Patriotic challenge, that the design team at SUO Challenges came up with this week.  As my neighbours to the south get ready to celebrate the 4th of July, in Canada we are gearing up to celebrate our country’s 146th Birthday, on July 1st.

I knew I wanted to participate in this challenge, but I didn’t think I owned any stamp sets that had anything to do with Canada, until I remembered the little maple leaf stamp that comes in the Four Seasons stamp set.  Then I had trouble coming up with ideas on how to showcase that little stamp (I really wish I had a bigger leaf stamp!), until I saw the sketch created by Margaret Moody at Pals Paper Arts.  The background actually looks like our flag turned on a diagonal. How perfect is that!

So I kept my background red and white and showcased the maple leaf, in the middle, just as on our flag.  And because this is a celebration, I added some bling to the sentiment, and it’s hard to tell in the picture, I embossed a little bling onto the little maple leafs as well.

Thanks for taking a look!

Stamp Set: Four Seasons, Embellished Events

Masculine Birthday for PP149

The Design Team at The Paper Players, has a fun colour combination for us to play with this week.

The challenge:

My card:

P1140209I suddenly remembered that it is my brother-in-law’s birthday this week, so I used the challenge to create this card for him. I still struggle (as I think a lot of people do) with creating masculine cards and I always seem to pull this particular sentiment out when I need to create one.  Just seems to work.

I used the Chevron EF to add some texture and when I showed it to my husband, he said it looked like tire tracks. Perfect for my brother-in-law who is our family mechanic!
